Submarine laying begins on the France interconnection: 276 km under the Bay of Biscay

Red Eléctrica has started the submarine phase of the electricity interconnection with France, laying 276 kilometres of cable under the Bay of Biscay, after three stoppages arising from complaints over bentonite spills that add up to more than six months of suspension and 22,400 euros in fines. The interconnection is the route by which Iberian renewable surplus can leave for the rest of Europe, so its schedule is one of the heaviest variables in medium-term curtailment risk.
