Brussels opens an infringement case against Spain over untransposed gas and hydrogen rules

The European Commission has sent Spain a letter of formal notice, the first formal step of an infringement procedure, for not notifying full transposition of the 2024 directive on the hydrogen and decarbonised gas markets, whose deadline fell on 5 August. The same letter went to 25 other member states: only Italy notified transposition in time. Spain has two months to reply and complete transposition. The directive updates EU gas market rules and creates the regulatory framework for hydrogen infrastructure, with the stated aim of easing renewable gases' access to the network.
