Spain creates a Strategic Investments Committee by royal decree

According to El Periódico de la Energía, the government has approved Royal Decree 731/2026 of 16 September, creating the Strategic Investments Committee and setting the procedure for designating an initiative a Strategic Investment Project. The report says the decree itself ties the measure to the renewables build-out, which has drawn electricity-hungry investment such as data centres and renewable hydrogen to Spain, and warns that rising grid access and connection requests may strain available capacity at certain nodes. The designation can also cover the network infrastructure needed to deliver a designated project.
