CNMC approves quarter-hourly trading in the continuous intraday market: 96 rounds a day
Spain's regulator CNMC has approved changes to the day-ahead and intraday electricity market rules and to operating procedures PO 3.1, PO 7.2, PO 9.1 and PO 14.4, introducing 96 trading rounds in the continuous intraday market, one for each 15-minute slot. Moving gate closure closer to real time improves renewable integration and cuts imbalances by letting generators, consumers and storage adjust their schedules later. For developers it completes the shift to quarter-hourly products that reached the intraday market in 2025 and the day-ahead market in October 2025.
