CNMC consults on the criteria for grid access between distribution network operators

Spain's regulator CNMC has opened a draft resolution to public consultation setting the criteria for assessing access and connection requests from a downstream distributor to an upstream distributor's network, developing the specifications of Circular 1/2024 for demand installations. The draft pins down how the connection point is determined, how available capacity is assessed and how alternatives are compared: the upstream distributor may propose another location where it is technically viable and lowers overall system cost, and any lack of capacity must be backed by calculations.
