The Bay of Biscay interconnection with France reaches 70% completion

Work on the Spain-France electricity interconnection across the Bay of Biscay, built by Red Eléctrica and RTE through Inelfe, is around 70% complete, as reported by pv magazine España. The link will raise exchange capacity between the two countries from 2,800 to 5,000 MW. At Gatika the converter station has finished civil works and is in electromechanical assembly; offshore, the first 65 kilometres of cable have been laid and campaigns will continue into the summer of 2027. For a developer, more exchange capacity means more outlet for renewable generation in the north of the peninsula.
