The Bay of Biscay interconnector with France reaches 70% completion

Red Eléctrica and its French counterpart Rte, through their joint venture Inelfe, put the Bay of Biscay submarine interconnector at 70% complete, with commissioning expected in late 2027 or early 2028 and a final budget of around 3.1 billion euros. The link joins the converter station at Gatika (Bizkaia) with Cubnezais, near Bordeaux, and will raise exchange capacity between Spain and France from 2,800 to 5,000 MW. For a developer, nearly doubling exchange capacity with France is one of the variables behind how Iberian surplus power finds an outlet.
