Spain's grid operator asks industry for 843 MW and 1,775 MW cuts within twenty minutes

Red Eléctrica twice activated its active demand response service on Tuesday 6 October, asking for cuts of 843 MW and 1,775 MW less than twenty minutes apart, in the face of scarce renewable output and unavailable combined-cycle plants. El Periódico de la Energía adds that 100% of the industrial capacity enrolled in the service was mobilised, and both titles place the event in a run of activations recurring through the year. For a developer each activation puts a price on flexibility: it is the most direct signal of what storage and demand management are worth in the hours when cover is tight.
